Thankful Hearts, Strong Voices, and Caring Connections

November 2025

As we gather around the table this Thanksgiving season, it’s a wonderful time to reflect
on what truly nourishes us — not just food, but connection, conversation, and care.
At Empowered Speech Pathology, we believe that communication and safe eating
are central to living fully and joyfully. This season, we encourage everyone to slow
down, savor the moment, and care for both body and voice.

Gratitude for Communication

Take a moment to appreciate your voice — it tells your story, shares laughter, and
connects you to loved ones. Whether you’re speaking clearly, using gestures, or relying
on assistive communication tools, every expression matters.
-Practice patience and active listening.
-Encourage loved ones who may need extra time to speak. Or take that time
yourself.
-Celebrate every word and shared moment.

Mindful Eating for a Safe and Joyful Meal

For those with swallowing or chewing difficulties, holidays can bring challenges. Try
these safe-eating strategies:
-Slow down, take small bites and sips, and rest between them.
-Sit upright and remain seated 20–30 minutes after eating.

-Modify textures, moisten foods with broth or gravy, and choose soft, easy-to-
chew options.
-Avoid distractions while eating to stay focused on swallowing safely.
Sharing a meal is about connection, not speed — enjoy the company and the
conversation.

Self-Care for the Season

The holidays can be joyful, but also tiring. Take time for yourself:
-Hydrate, your voice and body need moisture, especially in cooler weather.
-Breathe deeply, slow, full breaths support calmness and healthy speech.
-Rest your voice, if you feel strain, take breaks from talking or singing.
-Engage your mind, play word games, read aloud, or sing together to keep
cognition active and spirits high.

From Our Team to Yours

This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for our patients, families, and community partners
who trust us to walk beside them in their life journey. Your courage, resilience, and
progress inspire us every day.

Wishing you a safe, warm, and joy-filled Thanksgiving,
Kelly Cantrell and the Empowered Speech Pathology Team
